So how can Physical Therapy help you?

Origins:

Physical Therapy (PT) is rooted in movement.

During the polio epidemic, a small coalition of nurses took up the responsibility of reteaching movement to patients following their diagnosis. Since then, research has skyrocketed into how improving strength, mobility, and overall fitness can affect various conditions and injuries. This led to additional education of PTs, requiring 3 years of graduate school and clinical practice to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) as the current entry level degree to practice. This advanced level of training has equipped PTs to be considered autonomous practitioners – independent in practice and no longer needing a prescription from a physician to treat a patient (However, some insurance companies still do require this for reimbursement.).

Benefits:

Physical therapy can help you optimize your movement, lower disease risk, recover from injuries/surgeries, reduce fall risk, and is an alternative to many surgeries and pain medication.

Optimize movement: Our muscles and skeleton are designed to function as a series of levers to create movement. PTs are trained experts in applying the physics of the human body to best handle the demands of our daily life. We can help you train to improve mobility and strength to perform the most mundane tasks of putting on shoes, to lifting your grandchild, to weeding your garden to help you find the best method for your specific body. A tailored program can help you reduce risk of injury, and improve the quality of your daily interactions with the world around you.

Lower disease risk/severity: Movement is medicine!!! Movement has been supported in the research for decades to slow the effects of Parkinson’s Disease, reduce dependence on medication to manage Type II Diabetes, improve the efficacy of breathing for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and so much more.

Recover: Even the best athletes can still sustain injuries, need surgery, or become involved in unforeseen accidents. That doesn’t have to be the end! PTs work collaborate with other healthcare professionals to carry out surgeon protocols, work readiness programs, return to sport plans, and more. We’re here to help you get back to what makes you…you!

Reduce falls: More than one in four people age 65 years or older fall each year. Don’t become one of them! Balance is comprised of 3 main components, your head position in space (vestibular system), feedback from your body (somatosensory system), and sight (visual system). Physical therapists have tools to measure your current fall risk level against your age group, and will use that to determine individualized programs to address the deficits revealed.

Conservative alternative: Physical activity is frequently cited as a non-pharmaceutical and all natural alternative to pain management, working to decrease inflammation, increase circulation, redirect pain pathways, and improve mood. Additionally, newer research is revealing that PT can be just as effective as surgery (as well as less expensive, time consuming, and painful) for certain types of injuries/conditions, such as meniscus tears, disc herniations, etc.

Why choose Mobile Therapy Specialists (MTS) for your physical therapy:

MTS was founded by Lee and Patrick, whose careers combine for a total of 50 years of experience as practicing physical therapists…they’ve seen it all. Together, they created a community where PTs feel supported, are reimbursed for continuing education, empowered to create their own schedules, and encouraged to preserve a work/life balance. All this translates to higher quality care delivered to our patients.

With MTS, you are guaranteed one-on-one treatment, for a full hour, in the convenience of your home. There is no passing off of patients to aides, and PTs bring all necessary equipment (treatment tables, resistance bands, weights, agility ladders, balance pads, etc.) and innovative brains to maximize your healing experience. This quality time helps our PTs forge a genuine relationship with you, enabling us to customize your treatment plan to what matters most to you! Additionally, our team works closely with the community, establishing a vetted network for ancillary referrals including occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, massage therapists, caregivers, and other physicians that could be helpful in your care. We care about the whole person, not just the whole in the person. With MTS, you get Physical Therapy At Its Best!
